In-form Purton hit seven in runaway victory

Uhlsport Hellenic Div 1 West.

Letcombe 1 Purton 7.

A GOAL in the very first minute paved the way for Purton's 7-1 win at Letcombe last Saturday, writes Alan Eastwood.

Richard Crocker netted a spot kick having been brought down in the box after outpacing his Letcombe marker.

Letcombe hit back and equalised following a free kick from just outside the penalty area. Just before the break, after Stephen Avenell and Ashley Gooch had both gone close to increasing the lead, Tom Cadden with a low 20-yard drive sent Purton into a 2-1 lead.

Four minutes into the second half, a cross by Crocker was driven goalwards by Scott Campbell and, when his shot was blocked, Gooch followed up to net from close range.

On 66 minutes, Purton went 4-1 up, Ryan Child netting, and they made it 5-1 after 75 minutes through Crocker.

Purton continued to bombard the Letcombe goal and, with the home skipper Adam Pendell 'red carded', it was no surprise that Purton added further goals.

Neat work by Dave Gee, cutting in from the left, led to Johnny Cowley goal and it was Gee again, with another pulled-back cross, that enabled Tom Cadden to rifle in Purton's seventh.

The only down side to the game was the three Purton yellow cards and Letcombe's four, plus the sending-off of their team captain.
