Fairford Town knocked out of GFA Trophy by Hellenic Premier side

Fairford Town 0 Cheltenham Saracens 2.

FAIRFORD Town were beaten 2-0 by Cheltenham Saracens in the GFA Trophy at Cinder Lane on Tuesday evening.

While England’s World Cup qualifier in Poland was a wash-out, there were no such problems on a fine October night in Gloucestershire.

The visitors opened the scoring when striker Ethan Moore heading home a superb cross into the box to put the Hellenic Premier Division side ahead with 33 minutes on the clock.

Shortly after the goal, Fairford keeper Rob Brown, on loan from Forest Green Rovers, was forced off with an ankle injury after landing awkwardly. He was replaced by Ben Mitchell – himself having just recovered from a similar injury sustained in training over a month ago.

The second and final goal of the night arrived seven minutes before time with Jamie Hammond capitalising on a loose ball at the back to curl home past Mitchell.

Fairford Town: Brown, Murdoch, Stubbs, Bailey, Hall, Drewitt, Traas, Simpson, Pocock, Gambling, McLarty.
