Hook Norton feel the force of Purton goal power

Uhlsport Hellenic Div 1 West.

Purton 6 Hook Norton 0.

SMILES returned to the Purton management team, players and supporters after the demolition of Hook Norton at the Red House last Saturday, writes Alan Eastwood.

With some players still injured or on holiday, manager Chris Pethick had to draft in Wilts League keeper Wesley Clarke and outfield players Matthew Povey and Jamie Sheppard from the same league.

Right from the start, Purton took control and skipper Coole, Avenell and Richards all went close but the first goal did not arrive until the 26th minute when Avenell netted from close range after a cross from the right.

In the second half with Coole, Campbell and Mason pulling the strings in midfield, Purton steamrollered the visitors. On 51 minutes, Cadden ran on to a great through ball before hammering a 20-yarder past the 'Hooky' keeper and two minutes later did a similar thing to make it 3-0. On 55 minutes, it was 4-0 when Mason netted with a near-post header from a Campbell corner kick.

In the 68th minute, a run into the box by Coole saw him upended by the keeper, who was shown a red card before Cadden completed his hat-trick by dispatching the spot kick.

Avenell, Cadden and Brown were substituted by Crocker, Sheppard and Povey in the last 20 minutes and it was Crocker who made it 6-0 running on to a through ball, rounding the keeper and tapping in after 78 minutes.
