Tetbury race ace Danny Kent stars in Japan Grand Prix preliminaries

TETBURY teenager Danny Kent grabbed his first ever pole position when he led the way in Moto3 qualifying at the AirAsia Grand Prix of Japan at the Motegi Twin Ring circuit on Saturday.

Riding the Red Bull Ajo Motorsport KTM machine, he fought off the challenge of Spaniard Maverick Vinales and championship leader and team-mate Sandro Cortese.

“I thought Sandro would get back at me in the last couple of laps as he has done so many times this season,” explained Kent, who made his overseas grand prix debut at Motegi two years ago.

“This time he didn’t manage it and I’m delighted with my first pole but know I must repeat qualifying in the race tomorrow.”
