Try in first minute sets tone for Fairford victory

Dorset & Wilts Div 2 North.

Fairford 36 Chippenham II 5.

FAIRFORD started their home league campaign with a bonus-point victory against Chippenham.

They got off to a flying start with Steve McCann scoring in the first minute before quickly adding a second; Andy Dowan added both conversions.

Fairford dominated for much of the half with the forwards competing well at the set piece and the backs making a number of incisive moves. However, two knock-ons in the act of scoring let the visitors off the hook.

The pressure finally told when Neil Bee, following good work from Pat Dee and Tom Lovett, crossed to give the hosts a 19-0 half-time lead.

The second half followed the same pattern with Fairford dominating the game despite playing against the wind and slope. Bee soon crossed for his second try following good interplay and support with forwards and backs involved.

The next two tries came from good line-out and driving play from the forwards; first Dowan crossed for a try which he converted before feeding Bee to cross for his hat-trick.

With the game well won, a lapse in concentration allowed the visitors to cross for a consolation score.
