CIRENCESTER'S away trip to high-flying Weston Hornets proved to be a tough day at the seaside.

The Town side arrived on the back of a well-deserved win in the opening game of the season, but came up against a team that were clearly superior in most departments, particularly up front in the tight. The scrum was constantly under pressure and this led to the home side having more than their fair share of possession.

The majority of the first half was spent trying to defend attack after attack, with some last-ditch tackling from Alex Hammond and his back row keeping the deficit down to only 20 points.

Cirencester had just a solitary penalty from the boot of James Fisher to show for their efforts.

Following the half-time break, Town finally had some attacking play of their own, leading to winger Andy Halsey crashing over in the corner after some strong running from the forwards to create the space.

The score remained the same until the 57th minute when finally tiredness and the will to try and move the ball too quickly led to the home side running in a spate of tries.

Hornets ran out deserved winners by 60-8, leaving Ciren coach Hammett with plenty of thinking to do before this weekend’s home game against Barton Hill.
