Cotswold & District Cricket Association Division One round-up

ALL too predictably the sun finally shone on the last Saturday of the CDCA season and plenty of runs were scored in the best conditions of the season.

Typical of this was the match at Chedworth, played on an excellent wicket, where the hosts posted an impressive 264-3 against lowly Oaksey. The evergreen Darryl Drinkwater top-scored with 70 and was well supported by more aggressive knocks from the more youthful Chris Miles (63*), Oliver Lockey (49) and Jamie Lait (33).

In reply, Oaksey reached their highest total of the season on 220-6 but still fell 45 runs short of the target. Tom Cook hit an excellent 60 and Roger Gillespie (30) as the pair provided stability then some spectacular late hitting took the total beyond the 200 mark.

On another good track at NATS, Mike Godwin of Williamstrip continued his spectacular season scoring 214, the highest individual score in Div 1 this season, before retiring due to exhaustion.

Skipper Chip Lewis weighed in with 58 as the visitors went on to reach a massive 350-6 against a depleted NATS side. In reply, nine-man NATS never got going and collapsed to 117 all out.

At Stow-on-the-Wold, the hosts achieved maximum batting points with 205-5 against already-relegated Sherston Magna. Skipper Ash Andrews led the way with an excellent unbeaten 120. In reply, ten-man Sherston put up a decent fight before being bowled out for 150. Opener Matt Goodwin scored 40 and was well backed up by Richard Cartwright (36) in the face of some good bowling from Dan Smith (3-43).

The Windrush Valley v Oakridge match was conceded by Windrush who were unable to raise a team.

Champions for the third year in a row, Adlestrop, were once again unbeaten with Oakridge runners-up. At the bottom, Sherston Magna and Oaksey must look forward to Div 2 cricket next year.
