Steve Edwards ticks off another sub 3hr 30min marathon

STEVE EDWARDS, nursing a slight hamstring problem, completed his 25th marathon of the year in Wolverhampton on Sunday.

It took him within six of his ultimate target – a 500th marathon in November, and every one of them inside 3 hours 30 minutes.

But despite coming home in 3:16.28 for 17th place overall and second in the Vet45 age category he found the conditions very tough.

“It was a strange kind of day, really,” said Steve. “It was overcast and cloudy but I felt as though I was having to work extra hard to try and maintain normal pace.

“It wasn't until after talking to other runners and seeing the race results, where finish times seemed to be generally down across the board, that we realised the humidity was obviously a lot higher than we thought.

“Coupled with an ongoing hamstring niggle, it made for another hard-fought race so I was again glad to reach the finishing line and tick another one off.

“So that’s 25 marathons so far this year and fortunately all under the 3:30 target which leaves six to go.

“Next stop will be the New Forest Marathon later this month, then an intensive October of a marathon every weekend before the big one planned for November 11.”
