Purton rally at Woodstock after going two down in 20 minutes

Uhlsport Hellenic Div 1 West.

Old Woodstock Town 2 Purton 2.

TWO goals down after just 20 minutes, Purton fought back to share the points in a 2-2 draw and in the end might have taken all three points, writes Alan Eastwood.

After a pedestrian start when they conceded goals in the seventh and 20th minutes, as well as seeing their woodwork shaken with another effort by the home side, Purton started to get their act together.

They got a goal back when a shot was charged down and Dave Gee blasted a great strike past the keeper from 18 yards on the left side of the penalty area.

Gee also shot narrowly wide and Stephen Avenell went close with another effort.

For 20 minutes in the second half it was nip and tuck but gradually Purton had the better of things with Scott Campbell, Avenell, Ashley Gooch and Aaron Stevens all going close to scoring.

Avenell then saw an effort bounce back off the woodwork with ten minutes of the game remaining.

Woodstock had a chance in the 87th minute but the effort was deflected.

Purton then levelled the match in the second minute of the added time, Avenell scoring with a header after Tom Cadden had his effort saved.
