Clydesdale Bank 40: Gloucestershire (164) lost to Lancashire (182-9) by 18 runs

Captain Alex Gidman hit 36 for Gloucestershire
GLOUCESTERSHIRE will have to wait at least another year to end their barren run without a trophy after they were knocked out of the Clydesdale Bank 40 competition on Sunday. Lancashire sealed their spot in the semi-finals with an 18-run win at the County Ground in Bristol, which leaves the county without any silverware since they won the C&G Trophy in 2004. Ed Young took 3-25 as the visitors were reduced to 117-7, but Oliver Newby smashed 36 not out off 41 balls to lift them to 182-9. Glenn Chapple removed Rob Nicol, Benny Howell and Dan Housego early in Gloucestershire's innings as they subsided to 16-4. Skipper Alex Gidman brought them back into the game with a quick-fire 36 off 26 balls and Will Gidman (32) and James Fuller (43) set up a close finish before Chapple returned (5-26) to dismiss Young (16) and Jonathan Batty (3) and wrap up the win with Gloucestershire all out for 164. Gloucestershire welcome South Africa to the County Ground for a tour match on Wednesday (10.15am).
