Faultless Hans wins big night at the Abbey Stadium
12:30pm Saturday 18th August 2012 in Sport
HOME MAN Hans Andersen romped to an 18-point maximum to win the Simon Stead Testimonial meeting at Swindon on Thursday.
It was a star-studded line-up that turned out for Steady and a healthy crowd packed the Abbey, but it was a Swindon Robin that stole the show with a faultless performance.
The likes of Darcy Ward and Tai Woffinden were particularly spectacular and Steady himself made the semi final but came third, rounding off a great evening for the testimonial man.
Andersen made the jump in the final, ahead of Ward and Jason Doyle, and he rode a faultless four laps to win the top prize of a limited edition Tag Heuer watch.
Steady was delighted with how his night went. "It was fantastic," he said. "We got a decent crowd and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves.
"The boys had a lot of fun and everyone came to the auction and raffle afterwards. It was just a great night. It was a lot of hard work but worth it all, I'm so pleased with how it all went.
“It was an honour to have been given a testimonial, and to have it at Swindon was perfect because I have had four very happy years here.”
Final: 1st - Hans Andersen; 2nd - Jason Doyle; 3rd - Darcy Ward; 4th - Ryan Sullivan.
SWINDON bosses are urging fans to pack the Abbey Stadium for their televised clash with Lakeside on Bank Holiday Monday, August 27.
All admission prices for the meeting have been slashed in a bid to create a great atmosphere for the Sky Sports cameras.
All adults and concessions will be admitted for £10. Juniors will be admitted free and as usual youngsters are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.
Robins are next in action at the Abbey on Thursday, August 23, when they face title rivals Poole in what promises to be one of the meetings of the season.
