Australian Test batsman lifts Gloucestershire

ED COWAN was presented with his Gloucestershire County Cap before the start of the LV=County Championship match with Essex at the Brewin Dolphin Cheltenham Cricket Festival yesterday.

The presentation was made by Gloucestershire Chairman, Rex Body, to the Australian Test batsman, who is due to play in five matches for the club before leaving to captain his country's A tour to England later this month.

Ed has already helped Gloucestershire reach the Friends Life t20 quarter-finals by playing in the group wins over Worcestershire and Northants, making an unbeaten 70 in the first of those games.

At the Cheltenham Festival he is expected to play in the Clydesdale Bank 40 fixtures against Essex and Worcestershire, as well as the current Championship match.

When Ed leaves he will be replaced by New Zealand batsman, Rob Nicol, as Gloucestershire's overseas player for the remainder of the season.

Ed celebrated his county cap with an unbeaten 51 at the end of the first day’s play.
