Sparkling performance by Daglingworth triathlete at South Cerney

STEVE YATES continued his preparation for the World Long Course Triathlon Championships (45-49 years category) in Spain on July 29 with a fine display at the Standard (Olympic) Distance Triathlon at South Cerney over the weekend.
He romped home in the Vets category by more than two minutes.
His overall time of 2hr 5min 33sec missed out the overall win by just 17 seconds in the field of 271 competitors.
The conditions were windy and blustery which made the 1,500 metre swim very choppy and rough, while the 42km bike section was challenging, too.
“This was another good result for me as I now step up the event distances towards the World Long Course Championships in Spain,” said Yates, from Daglingworth.
“My next two races are both ‘Middle Distance’ events (1900m swim, 90km bike and 21km run). The first is on June 24 (at the Waterpark) followed by the British Championships on July 8 when I defend my age group title.”
