Northleach stay top after win over Coates

NORTHLEACH confirmed their place at the top of Division Two with a hard-fought victory at mid-table Coates.

Opening the batting, Northleach showed their intent with a four from the first ball.

The top four batsmen all played their part, in particular Glen Crompton with an excellent 83, including a number of sixes.

Coates' bowlers came back strongly with Sammy Taylor taking 4-60 and there were two excellent catches from Johnny Sutherland. However, Northleach posted a very competitive 201 all out.

Having top-scored with the bat, Crompton was soon among the wickets, finishing the day with 5-19.

Tom Claxton, for the home team, put up the best defence with an inspired 46. But it wasn't enough and Coates were finally all out for 131.
