Spye Park blown away by Lechlade bowling
6:28pm Monday 4th June 2012 in Sport
Lechlade player-coach Luke Sellers
West Of England Premier Wiltshire Division.
Spye Park 56 all out.
Lechlade 57-3.
LUKE SELLERS shone with a five-wicket haul as Lechlade won their second game of the season at the picturesque Spye Park on Saturday.
Lechlade won the toss and, with concerns about the weather, asked the home side to bat.
Opening bowlers Sellers and Paul Godding then proceeded to reduce the home side to 56-8 after 19 blistering overs. Sellers struck first in the fifth over of the day when he clean bowled Rendell for 1.
Rendell, however, was not Sellers’ first victim as the Lechlade keeper Tom Burgess had already been struck in the face from the bowler’s second delivery of the day. Burgess had to leave the field for treatment and Adam Clatworthy replaced him behind the stumps, with Burgess returning shortly afterwards to field in the deep.
Sellers quickly added the wicket of Taylor and Godding joined the party with two quick wickets to reduce Spye to 24-4.
Sellers added the wickets of Hues, spectacularly caught by stand-in keeper Clatworthy, Wallington and Fenner to complete his 5-25 before Rahul Dhyani wrapped up the innings with two wickets in four balls for 0. Godding ended with 3-20 as Spye collapsed to 56 all out.
Lechlade made short work of the run target, knocking off the total in 6.4 overs as the carefree top order played some expansive shots.
Adrian Stenner hit 16 off the third over but Spye secured the consolation wickets of Killham (8), Stenner (20) and Dickinson (6) before Paul Loxton and Clatworthy saw Lechlade home.
Lechlade captain Godding said: “Our bowling today really blew Spye Park away and Luke was just phenomenal.
“It was great that he secured his first five-wicket haul for the club.”
