MOTOR CYCLING: Fraser Rogers gets British Grand Prix wildcard entry (From Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard)

Hullavington youngster will line up with Tetbury's Danny Kent

HULLAVINGTON teenager Fraser Rogers has secured a wildcard entry in the Moto3 class for the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on June 17, writes Alannah Fellows.

Sixteen-year-old Rogers, a former Wilts & Glos Standard sports grant winner, will ride a Honda for the KP3 team and will be racing against Tetbury’s Moto3 star Danny Kent in front of the home crowd.

The wildcard comes after impressing in the Spanish CEV Buckler Moto3 Championship as part of the Racing Steps foundation squad.

Rogers said; “MotoGP has been my dream since I started racing at the age of eight. So to get the opportunity to race in the Grand Prix at Silverstone in front of the British fans is the best news I could have hoped for.

“The new Moto3 formula and the KRP bike have enabled us to take another big step forward this year. It’s levelled the playing field with everyone having to start from scratch and so far we’ve managed to do a pretty good job.

“There’s still a fair way to go but we've improved round by round in Spain which is really positive. Hopefully, we’ll be able to give a good account of ourselves when we get to Silverstone.”

CIRENCESTER’S Superstock 1000 rider Josh Day had a strong weekend at sunny Snetterton, enjoying his best result of the season.

CN Racing rider Day had a strong qualifying and after completing the opening lap in 12th place he slowly moved up through the pack in the 14-lap race to claim his first top ten finish of the season and six valuable championship points.

Day said: “My start wasn’t the best but I managed to stay out of trouble on the first few laps. I just stuck in there and I was a little bit lucky with a couple of the others taking each other out, but I just tried to stay consistent and stay smooth when the tyres went off.

“It’s the first time I’ve been in the top ten all year and it’s where I should be for the rest of the season.”

Josh now lies in 19th position in the Metzeler National Superstock 1000cc Championship but has to wait four weeks until the next round of the season at Knockhill, where he hopes to move up into the top five.
