Sky Sports Elite League.

Swindon Robins 50, King’s Lynn Stars’ 43.

FORMER Swindon star Mads Kornleliussen returned to the Abbey in style with a four-ride maximum – but it wasn’t enough to stop his old club banking maximum Elite League points from the meeting on Thursday.

The Robins made it three wins on the spin with a hard-earned success on a night when their strength in depth was evident once more.

No.1 Troy Batchelor suffered a host of problems, but this was compensated for by a double-figure haul from his race partner Nick Morris and another spectacular show from Peter Kildemand at reserve, the Dane missing out in just one ride.

Korneliussen won all four of his outings, including the third for double-points, but he lacked consistent support although another ex-Robin, Maciej Janowski, improved as the meeting went on.

Kildemand and Hans Andersen put Swindon in front with a 5-1 over Janowski in Heat 4, and the lead was doubled in Heat 8 when Stars’ reserve David Howe crashed, with Morris and Kildemand collecting maximum points in the re-run.

The tactical ride success for Korneliussen cut the gap to seven points, and both King’s Lynn riders made mistakes when in good positions in Heat 11 which could have increased the pressure on the home side.

Swindon made sure of all three points when Jason Doyle came good to partner Kildemand to a 5-1 over Howe and Kevin Wolbert in Heat 14.

Korneliussen sat out the final race but his team-mates Janowski and Niels-Kristian Iversen finished with a flourish, although all Swindon required from that race was a third-place finisher which they duly achieved.

SWINDON: Hans Andersen 11+1, Peter Kildemand 10+2, Nick Morris 10, Simon Stead 9, Jason Doyle 5+1, Robin Aspegren 3+1, Troy Batchelor 2+1.

KING’S LYNN: Mads Korneliussen 15, Maciej Janowski 10, Niels-Kristian Iversen 9+2, Daniel Nermark 5, David Howe 4, Kevin Wolbert 0, Michael Palm Toft 0.
