MANGOTSFIELD United duo Neil Arndale and Danny Greaves have accepted offers to step up a level to the Zamaretto Southern Premier League and join Cirencester Town.

Brian Hughes, a long-time admirer of both players, is delighted with his captures – especially as they fill two key roles in the side.

“Neil Arndale was my skipper at Cirencester Town in my first spell as manager,” said Hughes.

“I worked with him for two years and I have always liked him. He was with Bristol Rovers and played as an England Schoolboy international. Neil was an obvious target – I tried to get him last year.

“Since I came back, we have never adequately addressed our weakness at right back; now we have.

“Although I have talked to a member of the current squad about the possibility of becoming club captain (on the retirement of Lyndon Tomkins) Neil would be another candidate for that role.”

Hughes also moved quickly to sign Greaves in the wake of goalkeeper Matt Bulman’s switch to full-time football with Forest Green Rovers.

“I have known Danny since he was released by Bristol Rovers and I tried to sign him when he was with Forest Green Rovers,” said Hughes.

“He is a good lad, an enthusiast, and he is really looking forward to working with our goalkeeping coach Steve Hale.

“I always like to keep some of the budget back for pre-season because you don’t know who might become available, but I have agreed to sign two front men from lower leagues when we return to training on June 28.”
