A draw would have been a fair result

I was talking to the Cambridge manager afterwards and he thought they battered us.

If we had been battered, I don’t think I would feel so upbeat.

They are top of the table and we are just above the relegation zone but I thought we acquitted ourselves very well.

We did not deserve that defeat at all – like we don’t deserve to be where we are in the table on the way we have played this season. A draw would have been a fair result.

They have had two shots on target all game and scored with them both.

We have had a host of chances, more corners, more crosses into the box, and we have got nothing out of the game.

Our best chances fell to a centre half; theirs fell to a striker who is clearly very much on his game.

They had not set foot in our half before Callum’s mistake left the striker through on goal after 18 minutes.

Reidy has pulled back a good goal just before the break and then three minutes from time their useful No.7 has found some space and got it through to Hammond, who again finished it well.

Obviously, it was great late on to get Chris Thompson back on the pitch after his injury. He seemed to get through it okay and was putting in some crunching tackles.

Nathan has been given the all clear to go and see a specialist about his ankle and hopefully he will get the surgery done sooner rather than later.

Hosky should be back involved on Saturday after his hamstring problem.
