THAT WAS as good an all-round performance as we have given all season.

They played just as well against Andover in the previous game, but the nature of the opponents and the result makes this better.

There was a passion for the job on display and plenty of quality. We looked comfortable all day.

We thoroughly deserved it. I think they had one effort on goal and we had 11. I am still not sure why Lyndon’s goal was ruled out and when they had to put a defender in goal for the second half, he led a charmed life. We now have to go and do the same thing against second-in-the-league Totton on Saturday.

We don’t seem t have any trouble turning it on with the top teams, it is the mid-table ones we have trouble with. Uxbridge have done the double over us and yet everyone has beaten them.

If we got to the play-offs it would hold no fears for us because we do well against the big boys.

Zak Westlake’s last two games have been exceptional, Freddy Ward’s come in and done well and at the moment Jason Welsh is as good as he has ever been with us. Perhaps the quality of service he has been getting has improved.

But I shouldn’t really single anyone out because all 13 who were involved played their part.

As for the referee’s performance, giving us eight bookings and them none, it was ‘cringeable’. Two or three were justifiable but the rest were laughable.

He was being assessed and was probably under pressure but there was no excuse for it. To have five players booked in the first 32 minutes was unbelievable and I said my piece to him afterwards.
