I hope the win will prove the confidence booster we need to kick on and put a little run together.

I thought they shaded the first half, but we were very robust in the second and deserved the win. I knew one goal would probably do it.

The pleasing aspect was that we did not look under too much pressure after we went ahead and I thought we closed the game down well.

I was fed up hearing last season from other managers that we were the best side they have beaten. There is resilience about us now that we did not have then.

Sean Wood has come in from Supermarine and I thought he did okay on his debut on a pitch that would not have suited him.

He showed the right spirit to get his paperwork sorted quickly because he was so desperate to play. He has not played regularly for a few weeks and he understandably got tired.

Scott Mason has also come back after I rang him to see if he would do me a favour. Mark Pritchett is a young lad who has been looking leggy in the last few games and I think he needs a little break, so "Mace" has come in on a game-to-game basis.

He started with a little injury, which is why he came off at half-time.

Of all the players we lost when the club decided not to use Hartpury College players this season, "Mace" is the one I most wanted to keep.

He is not actually playing for the Hartpury first team at the moment and has been training with Evesham.

Reidy played at right back which Keith Knight and Kevin Willetts have been saying for months is his position.

It gives Reidy more time to play and he does strike a lovely ball down the channels.

Also a positive word about Matt Bath, who made a vital save at the end of the first half.

Bathy has been much improved since Steve Hale came to work at the club a month ago as goalkeeping coach and stats man.

Obviously, that is a bit of a luxury for a club at this level but having seen the results in a month I can really see the benefit of it and I think it is money well spent.

Stev, who was assistant manager at Thatcham Town, has been doing a lot of one-on-one work with Bathy and also works with the two very good Development Squad keepers we have at the club.

I’d like to think it could be a long-term appointment.
