Even the defenders are buzzing

IT WAS a solid and workmanlike performance. We played really well for an hour and then dug in for the last half-hour.

It was nice to see us bounce back from the Cinderford defeat and people will look at this result, see that we ended Frome’s 19-game unbeaten run, and take notice.

Having said that, I am having to nip any play-off talk among the players in the bud. With so many games being called off everyone has had far too much time to look at the league table.

I think that is what made us anxious against Cinderford and it brings with it unnecessary pressure.

There are so many games still to come and this league is so hard to predict. Cinderford won three games in a week and then lost at Bridgwater, who were the best team we have played this season, but had earned just one point in their previous 12.

All we can do is keep our own house in order. I am happy with nine points in the 12 available since the turn of the year. There have also been five clean sheets in our last six games, so even the defenders are buzzing.

We changed the team and played Carl Brown and Rob Hoskin up front because when we introduced the small players for our big front two at Cinderford we showed a lot more invention.

It was great for Carl to get through his first 90 minutes in some time and now he just needs a goal.

Tom Etheridge’s back was in spasm before the game and we could not sort it out so he could not play, but Freddy Ward came in for his first game in a long time and did well. But everybody played their part.

We now move on to the Yate game on Tuesday night. We should have played them in December when they were struggling for a win; now they have won their last three.
