WE WERE brilliant. We competed hard and every one of them put in a full shift.
Whether we deserved to win, I wouldn’t like to say, but after a five-hour coach trip we certainly deserved something for our efforts.
We had to put together a makeshift side after losing three players in the week, and there was a lot of youthful enthusiasm out there. But I thought the two centre halves and the keeper were excellent.
To be pulled back by a penalty in the last minute was hard to take and it was a poor decision by the referee. Their lad had overrun the ball and when he was touched by Minno, he went over like he was shot.
I talked to the ref afterwards and he claimed the lad could have got to the ball. He wouldn’t have got to the ball on a motor bike!
Having said that, two or three minutes earlier they did have a good shout for a penalty and I think the ref tried to balance it up at the end. Whatever way you look at it, it was weak refereeing.
In the first half we were the more likely to score and in the second we dug in, but it was not just a case of defending and we got a good goal.
Shaun Wimble stole the ball on the halfway line and we had a three-on-two situation. Shaun’s shot was parried and Davo finished it off.
On his debut, Griff was put out of the game early on by a scandalous challenge. Though their lad was booked, it should have been a straight red.
We coped well without Griff as everyone worked their socks off to put in a great team effort.
Truro are a good side and to go there and get a point could be the turning point of our season. Let’s now build some momentum from it.
The challenge is to go and do it again on Monday at Paulton Rovers, which is going to be tough after the weekend exertions.
Shaun (knee) and Jamie Reid (ankle) have both picked up knocks so we will have to see how they are. Lee Spalding is still out, though Gary Thorne will be available for selection again.
