THREE Games were played to a conclusion in Division One of the SweetFuels CDCA league at the weekend on damp pitches that favoured the bowlers.

Avening and Cherington just held on to their unbeaten record with a closely-fought game against NATS.

Electing to bat, Avening were in big trouble at 43-7 until Mark Townsend and Ed Morris made a decent eighth-wicket stand.

This took Avening through to 99 before being bowled out with the help of J Evans (5-17).

In reply, Michael Alley put NATS under pressure by taking 4-19 in the early overs. Pete Hudd did a similar job as second change bowler and finished on 4-17 as NATS were bowled out for 77 in 35 overs.

In a similar game at Adlestrop, the home side were dismissed for just 86 in 39.4 overs thanks to Sam Catterell and Bruce Main, who took four wickets apiece.

South Cerney’s Garrick Chivers led the reply making 37 before being caught and bowled by Adlestrop’s captain Nick Keen, who took 3-5 and helped to bowl out South Cerney nine runs short of the target, with plenty of overs in hand.

Windrush and Oakridge played a higher-scoring game, with Windrush making 152-9 off their 40 overs and Colin Weston top-scoring on 30.

Stuart Ridge was the pick of the bowlers taking 3-55 and then, together with Steve Robbins (77 not out), they knocked off the bulk of the runs for Oakridge to win by seven wickets with four overs to spare.
