Hemel Hempstead 2 Cirencester Town 1.
TWO defensive errors sent the Centurions to defeat at a boggy Vauxhall Road on Monday.
Ciren conceded a dreadful opening goal on just three minutes when an aimless pass was mis-headed in defence and Paul Edgeworth cut the loose ball back from the right for Ian Cooper to slot home.
Just minutes later, Yiadom Yeboah tripped Matt Williams as he burst in on goal following a Ciren corner. Michael Jackson hooked his penalty just an inch too far to the left and the ball bounced away off the post.
In spite of the setback, Ciren dominated all over the pitch. Adi Viveash, starting at centre back, was passing accurately, Williams and Steve Robertson were giving the giant Nathan Bowden-Haase and Yeboah all sorts of problems, while Matt Taylor and Matt Shaxton also featured strongly.
Ian Brown was under continuous pressure in the Hemel goal although Ciren didn't put away their chances until, on 36 minutes, Viveash got goalside of Edgeworth at the far post and calmly nodded home a precise Shaxton free kick.
Nathan Haisley, again tremendous in midfield for Ciren, then thundered a drive from the edge of the box against the post with Brown helpless.
In the second half, Hemel were allowed back into the game as the frequency and impact of the Ciren attacks faded.
Hard as Williams and Robertson worked to make themselves space in the penalty area, the quality of the final ball was not good enough.
Max Etheridge, replacing Taylor, was mobile and effective in holding the ball up front. Both he and Williams, were just inches wide with headers from Shaxton crosses as Ciren strove to turn their superiority into a goal.
With just over ten minutes left Hemel went for broke, throwing Harry Hunt on as the third striker A misplaced pass from Jackson saw the ball banged back upfield by Simon Sweeney. A flick from Cavill sent Cooper free up the right and, though Ciren had four defenders in the box, he found Hunt with an exquisite pass to the near post and Bulman was beaten.
