Ciren’ B 2.5 Defence Academy B 2.5
CIRENCESTER’S B team were held to a home draw by the Defence Academy of Shrivenham after a very tight contest.
Paul Daniel and Paul Cox earned their point on the final green, and it needed scintillating golf from Steve Sprinthorpe to steer a win in the final match.
Next year’s B team captain Springthorpe was just two over gross, but short-game play from the Shrivenham pairing kept them in the game.
The key moment of the opening halved match against Ciren pair Kevin Young and John Appleby came on the 11th.
Visitor Charles Tate appeared to be out of the reckoning, but his excellent bunker hit the top of the pin, with the ball then squirrelling straight down the flagstick and into the cup for an unlikely hole win.
u ON Tuesday, August 7, the Cirencester seniors welcomed the Seniors from Naunton Downs, but Ciren Seniors were very well-beaten on the home course.
Best scores for Cirencester came from Mike Helyer/Ian Perry with a win of 4 &3, followed by halves from Seniors Captain Keith Hodgson/Neil Halls - Chairman John Morris/Adrian Ruskell - David Lowbridge/David Findlay.
