It was a personal best for the 15-year-old who was proud of his achievements, he said: "Getting to British Nationals has always been a life time goal, and at the start of the year I never thought I would make it, so to qualify for British Nationals was amazing.

"It was a great experience to be competing alongside the top swimmers in Britain and to record a big persona best in my event and finish 13th in Britain.

"I would like to thank the Coaches at Cirencester and my family, especially my Mum and Dad who have come along this fantastic journey with me."

Ella, 14, qualified when she finished second in this years South West 14 year old girls free event.

Cirencester Head Coach, Howard Green was pleased for the pair, he said: "I’m so delighted for Alex and Ella. They have both worked so hard to achieve their dreams of competing at a national level.

"It is the first time that Cirencester have ever had a swimmer at the British Championships and the whole club are immensely proud of them both. Cirencester SC is just a small club with comparatively little pool time but the coaches here are all great and really focus on developing the technique of the swimmers, the committee give great support to the coaches and the parents contribute to the success of the swimmers.

"The whole club is moving forward and we all hope to have many more national swimmers in the future”.
