TETBURY'S Jamie Chadwick became the first woman to win a British Formula Three race after success at Brands Hatch, but she isn't resting on her laurels.

The 20-year-old admitted it was a big relief to finally win an F3 race but wants to finish the season strongly.

"We’ve been chasing this win all season and working hard towards it," she told the Standard.

"We’ve come close on a number of occasions, so to finally get on the top step of the podium is not only a great feeling but also a massive relief.

"I wouldn’t say the pressure is off. I want to use this momentum to push for more wins and finish the season strongly."

The historic victory only comes six years after Chadwick started racing competitively, having previously ridden in karts.

"I first showed an interest in the sport when I was 11 when I started racing go-karts at Castle Combe, but I didn’t start competing competitively until I was 14 when I entered the Ginetta Junior Championship."

Jamie has come a long way since then and has proven her worth in a very competitive F3 field this season.

"We started off with a great podium in the wet at Oulton Park in the second race of the season. Since then, although we’ve felt strong, a few things haven’t gone our way, however.

"With the British F3 field being incredibly competitive this year, consistency is key.

"Obviously, the highlight was the win at Brands Hatch and we’ll be looking to build on that over the remaining two events."

While making the headlines for an historic victory, Chadwick paid tribute to her team for their hard work which has led to her success.

"It’s been incredible," she admitted.

"The amount of hard work everyone has put in behind the scenes has made it feel extra special.

"To get the chance to celebrate with friends and family feels great."

Always looking forward, Chadwick has her sights set on F1 in the future.

"F1 is the pinnacle of the sport, so for any young driver its the dream to one day compete amongst the best.

"There are so many great races and different opportunities such as Formula E and sports cars, however, so there's a lot to look forward to.
