Cotswold Hills B 4 Cirencester B 2

COLLUSION in Cullompton it may have been, but Andy Bell’s heroics in bailing out the 12-man Cirencester B team for their match at Cotswolds Hills did not earn its just reward on Saturday.

With B team captain Kevin Young attending his daughter’s wedding, stand-in skipper Howard Jones had already used one get-out-of-jail card in trying to raise a full team when co-opting John Parsons the night before the match, after Adam Collins’ late call-up to the A-team.

Holidaying Andy Bell was then contacted early on Saturday morning – while tucking into breakfast at Cullompton Service Station in Devon. Andy quickly demolished his ‘full English’ and made the selfless dash to Cotswold Hills in time to join his team-mates.

Andy’s wife is now convinced that the early morning reveille in the West Country was not entirely due to ‘beating the holiday traffic on the M5’. Will we ever know the truth?

However, despite their efforts, both John and Andy were in losing pairs and the only Cirencester points gained in the 4-2 defeat came from Duncan Barnes & David Murray (5&4) and Paul Helbrow & David Michael (1 up).
