AS the sun continues to shine on Cirencester Park, the 18-goal Apsley Cup Final was played on Ivy Lodge on Sunday afternoon.

Six teams all from the Windsor area took part in the tournament that started on June 15.

Cirencester has been treated to top class action as each team played two league games and a semi-final to eventually stand the chance of lifting the Apsley Cup on Sunday.

Saad Audeh’s Marchfield took on Andras Tombar’s Bardon both with South American professionals making up the teams, in the finals.

It was all square with two goals each at the end of the first chukka, two goals from Terrera and one from Plaza in the second chukka for Marchfield put them ahead 5-2 at the end of the chukka.

Chukkas three and four were quiet for Marchfield as Bardon edged ahead 6-5 at the end of the fourth.

The fifth and final chukka was very exciting for the large crowd watching the final, as scores were brought level again at 8-8, within seconds of the end of the chukka.

Thirty seconds of added time were played but no winner found so the game moved into a sixth chukka of extra time. The teams restarted in the middle and Bardon ran to goal but did not find the middle of the posts, more action followed and then an edge of your seats, run to goal by the green shirts of Marchfield found the posts to take the title, 9-8. Marchfield were ecstatic with their hard-won victory as sticks flew in the air and support teams whooped and cheered around the field.

Lord Apsley presented the trophy to the successful Marchfield team in front of a crowd of spectators enjoying a glorious afternoon in Cirencester Park.
