DESPITE an outstanding performance over the weekend for Malmsbury’s Louis Harvey with a win in heat one and a second in heat two, the racing finished on a low as a mechanical issue saw him breakdown on the rolling lap in the final race.

Between rounds of the British SuperOne series karting championship the young Wiltshire driver took on a strong grid of 28 drivers in round five of the Shenington Kart Club championship.

Using the weekend for additional dry testing for his new Klaassen Motorsport ARC Shadow works chassis practice day went well and fine tuning of the set-up proved to be working well.

This was demonstrated in the early heats of Sunday's race day when from 13th on the grid Harvey made his way through the pack to win heat one.

Hoping for a repeat performance in heat two Harvey started eighth and was quickly up to fourth and, by lap two, was in second position.

Harvey decided to settle for second rather than risking a late move in the final corner in order to secure some good point for the final.

Heat three was looking promising as Harvey got a terrific start from 19th and was quickly up to eighth, but an incident at Wilkins caused his kart to get hooked up with another driver and put him on the grass in last place.

Once back on track he made a sterling effort to get back with the pack and still managed to finish 23rd.

With the points totalled, he still qualified fourth for the final and things were look great for a podium finish if not the win.

As the machines left the grid, Harvey’s kart failed to gain pace on the rolling lap and despite his best efforts, he could not get the engine to kick into life, dropping him back down the field as they approached the start line.

The engine eventually oiled up with the high temperatures, stalled and refused to start.

A disappointing end to what was turning out to be a fantastic weekend.
