South Cerney Golf Club Seniors Section and Ladies Section

Seniors Section

Yet again the poor weather has interrupted early season golf for South Cerney Seniors, with the first away match of the year falling victim to a waterlogged Broome Manor course.

The Spring Cup played over 36 holes on two separate days did go ahead, but only following heroic efforts by the green-keepers. Even so, the competition was shortened to 34 holes, most of which were temporary winter greens and this in the middle of April.

None of which should diminish the performance of the eventual winner. Better known for his walking football skills nowadays, Steve Kaufmann playing off a handicap of 20 finished with a net score of 129. (See photo taken in warmer times.) In second place , finishing only one shot behind Steve, was the ever-consistent Ian Haslam playing off 18. The unlucky Ted Parrott playing off 20 had the same score of 130 but just lost out on countback.

Ladies Section

The South Cerney Ladies have also suffered at the hands of the weather gods this month with no completed Medal or Stableford competitions so far.

However, Ladies’ Captain, Brenda Smith, playing with Dawn Rawlings and representing the Club, enjoyed a comprehensive 8 and 6 victory over their opponents from Minchinhampton Old Club in the second round of the Daily Mail national Foursomes competition.
