A QUARTET of Cirencester golden oldies helped Gloucester & Hereford reach the England Hockey over 60s final.

Cirencester keeper Dave Webb was the spot-kick hero, saving two penalties against Indian Gymkhana, booking a place in the final in London next month where the team will face Surrey next month.

Indian Gym fielded three internationals, including Kulbir Bhaura. Kulbir is one of the most decorated strikers with 61 GB caps and 82 England caps, winning bronze in Los Angeles in 1984 and was part of the gold medal team in Seoul in 1988.

The home start sided brightly with Cirencester players Roger Britton, Ian Harvey, Steve Foster and keeper Webb. However, the first spoils went to Kulbir whose powerful shot left keeper Webb with no chance.

With 15 minutes remaining deft stick skills from Martyn Richards bamboozled the Indian Gym defence and his pass to Stroud's Nigel Sherwood provided a gilt-edged chance and his equaliser set up a nervy finish.

The winner was to be decided by penalties. Webb made two superb saves from the second and third penalties. Hereford’s Brian Stokes held his nerve to win the shoot-out.
