TOM MONTGOMERY’S fine net 64 off his 17 handicap saw him claim the April Monthly Medal at Cirencester Golf Club.

Tom pipped fellow Division Three player Haimish Mead (65) thanks to a marvellous three-hole spell at the end of his round when he birdied 15 and 16 and parred the tough par five 17th.

But it is Haimish who goes forward to the PGA/Lombard Regional Final as the available player with the lowest overall score. He will be the Cirencester representative in 2018 to play alongside club pro Ed Goodwin.

Mark Bisset was left to rue two short missed putts in an otherwise superb gross 74 which topped the leaderboard in Division One. Division One runner-up Tom Waller had the consolation of posting the best gross score of 72 which included no fewer than five birdies.

One of Tom’s deuces came on the 2nd hole but there were only five other birdie twos recorded: 2nd hole – Bob Herbert; 9th – Barry Moisejevs; 13th – Tony Killick; 18th – Tony Crowther, Jeff Salter.

Burford A/B 2.5 Cirencester B 3.5

CIRENCESTER Golf Club’s B team showed the stamina and grit appropriate on Grand National day to win the final three matches and claim a fine 3.5 to 2.5 win over a strong Burford side.

Captain Kevin Young and Jonathan Wells halved an epic low-scoring opening match which was full of birdies including a near-hole in one at the 2nd from the opposition.

Other matches included a gross 74 from Nick J Brown with his new clubs clearly working well, while there was some good golf played by new B team recruits Paul Helbrow, Paul Loxton and Mark Griffin.

The Burford course was in good condition despite the poor weather over the winter.

Winning Cirencester pairings: Nick Brown & Paul Helbrow (3&1); Paul Loxton & Gavin Allen (2up) and John Appleby & Mark Griffin (3&2).
