The opening day of the 2018 Cheltenham Festival saw two equine fatalities.
Gordon Elliott's Mossback sadly suffered a fractured shoulder in a fall in the four-mile National Hunt Chase, won by Willie Mullins' Rathvinden.
The Evan Williams-trained Report To Base, a faller in the closing Close Brothers Novices' Handicap Chase, was another who could not be saved.
Cheltenham's communications manager Sophia Dale said: "Unfortunately Mossback suffered a fractured shoulder and could not be saved.
"Report To Base also had to be put down."
