Fairford Town 2

Abingdon Utd 2

FAIRFORD Town secured a valuable point from an entertaining 2-2 draw with Abingdon United on Saturday, writes Chris Tanner.

Conor Lynch scored a brace and Ben Mitchell saved a second half penalty as the home side showed their mettle once again.

Lynch opened the scoring with a well-placed header just three minutes into the encounter to give the Reds the lead from a pinpoint cross from Dan Bailey.

John Dennis brought the Oxfordshire side level around 20 minutes later and that’s how the score remained until half-time.

The visitors went ahead for the first time in the game five minutes into the second half with Tom Butler netting his 12th of the campaign, capitalising on a rare mistake from home stopper Ben Mitchell.

Mitchell made amends for his earlier error with a penalty save to keep the home side in the game – and it was to prove an important intervention.

Lynch then took his tally to seven goals in eight games with a last minute leveller to secure what could be a vital share of the spoils as the season continues.
