Who likes to admit their age?

THREE members of Cirencester Athletics and Triathlon Club cannot hide their secrets due to their recent outstanding achievements.

The club’s senior female athlete and rotarian, Yvonne Binks celebrated her 70th birthday in October.

Only one week later she ran the Bournemouth Marathon, to set an inaugural club record for the FV70 category and so gaining a ‘good for age’ place in  the 2018 London Marathon.

Just prior to celebrating her birthday, school governor at Andoversford Primary School, Ruth Fulford smashed her own club 5km record, knocking over 30 seconds from the FV65 record.

Ruth also retained her title to receive a gold medal in the Gloucester AAA Road Race Championships only last week.

The youngster of the group and trustee of the Churn Project, Liza Darroch, who will reach this birthday milestone in February, ran in the FV65 category at the Chester Marathon and has been selected to run in an England vest for the 2018 UKA Championships.

No stranger to even longer distances she also completed the Lakeland 55 in the summer.

Competitive performances have also been matched with coaching and committee work with special emphasis on encouraging the beginners.

Granny duties for the 10 grandchildren they have between them completes their busy lives.

Not surprisingly they have collected a mantle piece of trophies and awards between them.

These three active septuagenarians contribute to making Cirencester Athletics a successful and supportive club for young and old of all abilities.
