CIRENCESTER FLAMES enjoyed a winning weekend in Cornwall.

They toppled Penzance 40-38 in their first game.

Katie Pauling and Fran Lok found the net and Abbie Evans and Eva Andrews fed some lovely balls into the shooting circle.

Defence managed to keep the score from increasing too much further and good tips from Klara Fletcher and Beth Mackinnon saw the score come to a five goal difference at half-time.

The third quarter was the best for Cirencester Flames, as all positions pulled it together and linked their play beautifully.

Defensive players Gracie Napier and Phoebe Gerard forced the opposition out of the shooting circle and some superb interceptions from both defenders helped the centre positions bring the ball quickly down court into Cirencester’s attackers.

Clinical shooting meant Cirencester won a terrific third quarter by eight.

The Flames kept control thanks to fast passing, great interceptions from everyone and steady, strong play, finally closing out the game 40-38.

Star Player: Eva Andrews.

The second match against St Agnes was a tough, well-fought match from both teams.

Quarters one and two saw Cirencester off to a good start, but the home side managed to keep their great play going and pulled away four goals up by half-time.

The third quarter again was the Flames best quarter as the whole team started to work together and use their skills to their advantage.

Defence kept a close eye on their opposing attackers with Gracie Napier and Phoebe Gerard getting tips and interceptions and really putting pressure on the shooters.

Leading on from this the ball was played down court by Klara Fletcher, Beth Mackinnon and Eva Andrews who successfully managed to get it to Abbie Evans who gave some great feeds into the shooting circle.

Once more, Katie Pauling and Fran Lok created lovely space and their shots kept going in and in, helping Ciren pull back to an eight-goal lead for the quarter. Cirencester maintained their dominance throughout the final quarter and pulled away for a final score of 45 to St Agnes 37.

Star Player: Katie Pauling.
