Blunsdon 0, Poulton 3

BLUNSDON were playing Poulton FC on Saturday, a game which, if Blunsdon won, would put a comfortable gap between the top 5 and the rest of the division.

Poulton got off to the best of starts inside 10 minutes with a free header from a corner. Conceding the early goal gave Blunsdon the wake-up call they needed and Jake Bailey really tried to get Blunsdon reignited with a number of deep, teasing crosses just begging to be attacked.

Blunsdon went on to control the remainder of the half but despite controlling the play, and having most of the possession, they lacked conviction up top and couldn’t break Poulton down in the final third. The half finished 1-0 to Poulton.

The second half started in similar fashion, Chester Dolisznyj putting a shot inches over from a tight angle after beating two or three Poulton defenders, and the Poulton keeper making an heroic save in the top left corner from a Jake Bailey shot.

But it was Poulton who extended their lead, hitting Blunsdon on a counter attack that was initially cleared but not closed down quickly enough and a decent strike from 30 yards found the top left corner of the goal, 2-0.

Blunsdon continued to press but it was the same story as the first half. Blunsdon lacked conviction in the final third.

Poulton polished the game off by beating stand-in keeper Anton Ponting at the near post for a 3-0 final score.
