MALMESBURY boxer Joe Hughes might be the underdog for the EVU Super Lightweight (light welterweight) European title fight on Saturday but the 27-year-old says he has never been in better shape and is confident of triumphing over his unbeaten Swedish opponent.

Joe, who recently moved from Malmesbury to Bristol to be nearer his wife's family and to the gym where he now trains, is fighting title holder Anthony Yigit on Saturday at the Leicester Arena.

Comparing the records of the two fighters: Joe –15 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw compared to Yigit's 20 wins, 0 losses and 1 draw, it is easy to see why Yigit is the bookies' favourite.

Hughes, however, is supremely confident and says he has every intention of winning.

"This is the biggest fight of my career and I am very excited and completely confident," he said this week.

"Yes, he represented Sweden at the London Olympics in 2012 and has won more fights than I have but I am in great shape, my training has gone well and I will go in there and win."

The fight is being broadcast live on Channel 5 on Saturday at 10pm.
