CIRENCESTER TOWN boss Charlie Griffin, who is in the market for a left back following the departure of Matt Jones to Farnborough, came on for the last 35 minutes in the Melksham Town Select XI v Manchester United Legends XI charity game on Sunday – at left back.
“I was trying myself out for the position,” joked Griffin. “I thought I did alright and we won about 6-2 or 7-2.
“I enjoyed playing alongside Chalkie White and Darrell Clarke at the back and I even used my left foot.
“It was an absolute honour to play on the same pitch as legends like Sammy McIlroy and Frank Stapleton. And, of course, it was for a good cause, the Teenage Cancer Trust.
“Those boys still have a hunger for the game and still hate to give the ball away. They were all giving each other a hammering if they made a mistake.
“I have already put my name down for the Melksham team when the Liverpool Legends come down to play in March.”
