Cirencester & District League
Stratton United 2
Blunsdon 0

STRATTON UNITED moved into second place in the Cirencester & District League after winning their vital top-of-the table clash with Blunsdon who had started the day one point behind them.

In a slow, even first half-hour neither team created a clear-cut chance.

Five minutes before the break Stratton capitalised on a defensive error to take the lead through Stratton striker Sylvester (Silvy) Anaisie.

Blunsdon defender Lee Baden uncharacteristically missed a clearance and Blunsdon keeper Dan Butler was caught in an advanced position and helpless to do anything to stop Anaisie.

The second half got no better for Blunsdon as Stratton were quickly 2-0 up.

Pressing high, Stratton stole the ball on the left wing put together some nice passes to cut through the Blunsdon defence which left Anaisie one on one with keeper Butler and the striker found the net with a precise finish.

Blunsdon refused to give in and Stratton had some luck on their side; Stratton keeper Jamie Penfold made three reaction saves on the line from close-range efforts, sticking a limb out on each occasion, though he may not have known too much about the saves.

The high pressing from Blunsdon left them slightly open at the back as Stratton looked to kill the game off and they were denied by some good saves late on from Butler who kept the score at 2-0.
