Fairford Town 1
Wantage Town 3

FAIRFORD Town produced another spirited performance as high-fliers Wantage Town came from behind to take all three points from an entertaining Cinder Lane encounter, writes Chris Tanner.

Having played 90 minutes at Longlevens on Wednesday night, midfielder Dan Bailey marked his second home ‘debut’ with a goal as Fairford took a 22nd-minute lead. A corner routine was well worked with Bailey’s glancing header finding the back of the net.

The visitors were rebuffed by a resolute defensive shift until the 43rd minute when experienced front man Steve Robertson capitalised on a defensive error and the striker made no mistake to slot home his 19th goal in 23 outings which sent the teams in level at the break.

Wantage took the lead for the first time in the game on 79 minutes with Jack Powell capitalising on second-half pressure before the points were sealed two minutes from time with Jack Dunmall’s 16th goal of the campaign.

This was a determined effort from a Fairford side making progress in terms of performance, but the Reds will aim to turn performances into points at Burnham next weekend.

Before that is the Challenge Cup second round visit of Royal Wootton Bassett to Cinder Lane on Wednesday, November 8, 7.45pm.
