Mangotsfield Utd 1

Cirencester Town 1

IT’S becoming a habit – and a nasty one—as Cirencester Town managed to throw away a winning position when 10-man Mangotsfield forced a late draw.

Kane Simpson popped up inside the six-yard box as no one tracked Jake Gardner’s overlapping run into the right side of the box in the 79th minute.

Belatedly stung into action after dominating the first half, Cirencester created a number of late chances to snatch victory, the last of them a great header by the returning Ellis Dunton which was clawed out of the top corner by George Dorrington in stoppage time.

The first half sending off-of Nick Peare was the pivotal moment. His high boot did enough damage to Aidan Bennett’s head to force the striker to leave the field and for lengthy remedial work to take place. The clash did look accidental.

Ciren failed to build on the superiority after Bennett’s earlier goal with Whitehead and Anderson both unlucky in hitting the woodwork, while Dorrington made a couple of vital saves for Field.

Thom Jonkerman on debut in goal for Ciren had little to do apart from picking the ball out of the net late on and Ellis Dunton had a notable second half on his return to the fold.

Cirencester Town: Jonkerman, Christopher, Jones, Horrell, Stoddart, Dunton, Anderson, Connolly (capt), Bennett (Pook, 32) Whitehead, Spalding. Unsued subs: Lewis, Mortimer-Jones, Rose.
