BOURTON ROADRUNNERS' junior section had some fine results in the first round of the Gloucestershire Cross Country League held at Blackbridge in Gloucester.

Kiya Dee had a superb run in the U13 girls, leading from almost the start and holding off a Cheltenham runner to win.

Her sister Taya Dee also ran extremely well, working her way through the field for a very good sixth place which helped the U13 girls team into third place after the first round.

Abigail Barnett raced superbly to finish fourth in the U11 girls, a much higher position than expected.

She was actually leading for almost half the race but faded a little at the end.

Over the past months Jake Astor has taken his training to a new level. Last season he was towards the back of the U15 boys and in his first round this season managed a superb fifth place after a very strong run.

The U11 boys fielded three teams with the largest number of entrants from any club.

Kian Dee ran a well-paced race to lead the team home in 15th, closely followed by Michael Astor in 18th which helped the boys' first team into a very respectable fifth after the first round.

Helena West, aka our “pocket rocket”, again ran strongly for 10th place over 4.3km in the U15 girls.

The U17 age group moved up a distance from 5k to more than 6k, joining the senior ladies' race over the same distance.

Emily Field ran well to finish 40th overall and fourth in the U17 girls.

Gabby Jones yet again suffered badly from stitch but still managed 136th overall and ninth U17.

The next round takes place at Charlton Park, Malmesbury on Saturday, November 4.
