Tovey Cup

IT’S the time of year when the individual knockout competitions are concluded at Cirencester Golf Club.

The 2017 Tovey Cup has been won by next year’s club vice captain Adam Collins after a 3&1 victory in the final against Stuart Park.

“I won the Tovey Cup about 25 years ago when I was junior,” recalled a delighted Collins.

“It was a nervy final and neither Stuart nor myself were at our best at the start. Stuart led at the turn but I started to play well on the back nine and was 3 up with three to play.

“Stuart then won the 16th but I closed it out with a birdie four on 17 after I hit two drivers and then a gap wedge to a foot.”

Douggie Rolles Cup

DAN SKINLEY saved his best golf of the year for the final of the Douggie Rolles Cup when beating his friend Tom Waller 4&3.

“It was difficult match to play as Tom is a mate and we play together regularly,” said five-handicapper Dan.

“But having had my worst season for four or five years I played my best round of the year and was only one over par when I closed it out on the 15th green.”

Skinley had been given a much tougher task getting past Tovey Cup runner-up Stuart Park in an earlier round which went to the fourth extra hole.
