October Medal

THE final monthly medal of the seniors' summer season was played out in benign conditions at South Cerney and yet again Division One was dominated by Pete Chart with a gross score of 74, giving him a net total of 66.

That was enough for a comfortable three-stroke lead over his nearest challenger on the day, Pete Barnes, who shot a gross 83 (net 69).

Peter Curnock, playing off 17, had the same net score of 69 but finished third on countback.

Division Two was won by Ken Jacobs, playing off 24, with a net score of 67. Second with a net 69 (off 22) was John P Lewis, while Peter Hooper with a net 71 (off 24) finished third.

The October Medal was also the 10th and final round of this summer’s Seniors Eclectic competition, in which each player’s best score on each hole over the 10 rounds is aggregated to produce a single gross score, which is then adjusted by 50 per cent of the player’s handicap to produce a net score.

Given his recent successes, it came as no surprise to find that the winner with a net score of 58.25 was Pete Chart, whose main competitor for the major prizes all year, Brian Whittaker, finished in third place with a net 60.75. Congratulations are due to John Abbott who finished in second place with a net 60.60, thus managing to split the only two single-figure handicappers in the Seniors' Section.

Summer Knock Out Competitions

THERE was a certain inevitability about the finalists in Division One of the summer KO competition, as the afore-mentioned rivals Pete Chart and Brian Whittaker met up in this year’s dream final.

The match lived up to expectations as the pair stood all square as they teed off on the 18th hole but Brian’s birdie was enough to clinch the title one up.

In Division Two, Mac Cannons, who earlier in the year had won the Winter KO competition, managed to hold off the challenge of John Quick to confirm his status as the matchplay specialist of Division Two.
