Buildbase Trophy Prelim Rnd
Evesham United 2
Cirencester Town 3
Cirencester Town caused one of the shocks of the round by beating Evesham United 3-2 on Sunday after a display of gritty determination and no little skill.
To do so after going a goal behind early in the second half was all the more meritorious.
Lewis Powell fired the Robins into a lead in the 52nd minute with a sweet half volley after good build-up play by Paul Fahy and Greg Peel.
To go behind was something of an injustice to hard-working Ciren but they were level in the 66th minute when Ben Whitehead drilled a fine shot in off Kev Sawyer’s post.
Ten minutes later Aidan Bennett found his shooting boots and beat Sawyer comfortably with a fierce low shot into the corner for 2-1.
Within a minute Bennett had put his side 3-1 ahead, although the ball was helped home by defender Leroy Odiero.
Ciren were seeing out the game well when Powell gave the visiting fans palpitations with a 90th minute looping header, but Ciren made it across the line and pocketed the £3000 prize money.
