Cirencester & District League
Oaksey 0
South Cerney 5
OAKSEY'S flying start to the season crash landed on Saturday against South Cerney.
In truth Oaksey had expected a hard match against an ex-Division One side and that proved to be the case.
However, Oaksey showed spirit from the off and had the visitors on the back foot for the first 15 minutes.
But Cerney have some young, fit and determined front runners, who were quick to exploit any breakdown in play and counter attacked with great effect.
This brought about the breakthrough when Nathan Littler hit a superb shot into the top corner to put Cerney 1-0 up. A second goal followed before half-time.
While fighting a rearguard action for most of the half, Oaksey at least demonstrated that they could compete against decent opposition.
Injuries to key players hampered their second half performance, however, and allowed Cerney to capitalise further.
Oaksey did create chances to reduce the lead, but to no avail and a further three goals added by Cerney sealed the match. The visitor's Sam Dickson finished with a hat-trick.
