DEFENDING champions Gloucestershire and Yorkshire tightened their grip on the top of the leaderboard at the Women’s County Finals on Wednesday, when both teams notched big wins at Felixstowe Ferry, Suffolk.

Both counties maintained a 100 per cent record, winning all three of their matches so far.

Yesterday Gloucestershire beat Buckinghamshire 8-1, while Yorkshire defeated the hosts Suffolk, 7½-1½.

Earlier in the week Glos had beaten Suffolk 8-1 and Hampshire 5½-3½.

Gloucestershire won all three of their foursomes against Bucks and followed up with an impressive singles performance, with a mix of big wins and gritty finishes.

Ffion Tynan, Caley McGinty and Sam Round were all big winners.

Alex Saunders and Alex Giles, meanwhile, had to stage comebacks to take their points.
